The Very Hungry Caterpillar - SandBox Series
The Very Hungry Caterpillar – SandBox Series
Inspired by Eric Carle's timeless classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a colorful 30-minute immersive theatre experience created especially for our youngest audiences. Drawing inspiration from Eric Carle's beloved story, this immersive experience explores its themes, characters, and sense of wonder through imaginative play, movement, music, and hands-on discovery.
Children will journey through activities inspired by the caterpillar's adventure, exploring healthy foods, counting, colors, the days of the week, and the remarkable transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. Every experience is designed to spark curiosity while encouraging active participation and creative exploration.
Interactive Experience
Young audience members become part of the adventure by counting foods, identifying colors and shapes, exploring nature through movement, and celebrating each stage of the caterpillar's journey. Children help bring the story's themes to life through music, imaginative play, and audience participation.
Experiential Opportunities
Pre-show Activities: Families are invited to enjoy hands-on activity stations featuring butterfly crafts, caterpillar creations, sensory exploration, coloring pages, and activities that introduce the butterfly life cycle.
Interactive Moments: Throughout the experience, children are encouraged to count along, identify fruits and other foods, move like caterpillars and butterflies, sing, dance, and participate in storytelling activities inspired by the book.
Educational Elements
The Very Hungry Caterpillar supports early literacy, language development, early math skills, and science exploration through repetition, sequencing, counting, colors, the days of the week, and the butterfly life cycle. Ticketing
Each performance has a limited capacity of 25 child tickets and 40 adult tickets. To keep the experience safe and enjoyable for everyone, each child ticket must be accompanied by at least one adult ticket. All children ages 1 and older require a ticket to attend.
If the child-ticket option does not appear or you are unable to add a child ticket to your order, the 25 designated child tickets for that performance have sold out. We encourage you to select another performance with child tickets available.
If adult tickets remain available, they may be purchased for children; however, these tickets will be sold at the full adult ticket price.
Thank you for helping us create a welcoming and secure environment for our youngest theatre friends.
Flexible Ticket Transfers
We understand that plans can change. Families who are unable to attend their scheduled performance may transfer their tickets through their online ticket account to another available date and time of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, subject to availability.
Please note that tickets may only be transferred to another performance of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and cannot be transferred to a different Sandbox Series production. Thank you for your understanding as we work to welcome as many young audiences as possible.
