Take flight on a magical adventure celebrating imagination, family, and cultural heritage in Abuela, a heartwarming 30-minute immersive theatre experience created especially for our youngest audiences. Using the beloved picture book as its inspiration, this experience brings its themes to life through interactive activities, bilingual storytelling, music, movement, and creative exploration.

Children will imagine soaring above the city, discover familiar neighborhoods from a new perspective, and celebrate the special bond between generations through interactive activities that capture the spirit of the story.

Interactive Experience

Children become part of the adventure as they imagine the sights and sounds of the city below. Young audience members are encouraged to use their imaginations, respond to performers, and participate in movement, music, and storytelling activities inspired by the book.

Experiential Opportunities

Pre-show Activities: Families can enjoy hands-on craft stations featuring paper birds, kites, and cityscape art projects inspired by the story, along with bilingual activities celebrating Spanish and English vocabulary.

Interactive Moments: Children are invited to pretend they are flying, identify neighborhood landmarks, sing simple songs, explore movement, and participate in imaginative storytelling inspired by the themes of the book.

Educational Elements

Abuela supports early literacy, language development, and social-emotional learning while introducing children to themes of family, imagination, cultural identity, and community. The experience celebrates bilingual storytelling and encourages curiosity about different cultures, traditions, languages, and perspectives.

Ticketing

To keep the experience safe and enjoyable for all, each child ticket must be accompanied by at least one adult ticket. All children ages 1 and older require a ticket to attend. Thank you for helping us create a welcoming and secure environment for our youngest theatre friends.

Flexible Ticket Transfers

We understand that plans can change. Families who are unable to attend their scheduled performance may self-transfer their tickets to another available performance date and time of Abuela through their online ticket account, subject to availability. This flexibility allows families to enjoy the production at a time that works best for them while helping CCT welcome as many young audiences as possible.
